In championing salvation by faith alone, many Christians today view baptism to be merely symbolic. Is baptism simply a symbol of our faith, an act of obedience subsequent to salvation, or does it carry spiritual effects requisite for salvation? Find out from the teachings of Christ and the apostles.

Most Christians today propound salvation by faith alone. It is commonly believed that baptism is merely a symbolic action subsequent to a person’s salvation. Yet this belief contradicts the teachings of the Bible. Baptism is necessary for salvation because it carries saving effects. It does not replace the saving grace of Jesus Christ, but is effective because of the saving grace of Christ.
