Sydney, 1983 - A small number of believers, including overseas students, gathered together for services in the homes of Bro. Wallace Hsu and the Ang sisters. In 1984, they were introduced to an elderly believer called Mrs. Chung, originally of Sabah, by Dn. John Chin, who at that time was sent by South East Asia Evangelical Coordination Center ( SEACC ) of the True Jesus Church. Mrs. Chung kindly made available her house in the eastern suburb of Maroubra to be used as a house of prayer. SEACC continued to send ministers to help in the establishment of the church.
Mrs. Chung was called back by the Lord in 1986. Between 1987 and 1989, the congregation shuttled between the home of Dns. Priscilla Kong in the western suburb of Strathfield and the beachside restaurant of Sis. Lock Chin Wong in the northern suburb of Collaroy on the Sabbaths. The International Assembly had started to send ministers by this time. The True Jesus Church in Sydney gained her legal status through public incorporation in 1987. In 1989 the congregation purchased a modest residential house along Victoria Rd in Rydalmere. The Parramatta council approved the use of the building as a place of religious worship. The church started having additional services on Fridays and Sabbath mornings. Religious education classes were put in place. By 1992 it became obvious that the congregation had outgrown this small house.
Late 1995 - the small house was sold and the congregation moved to a hired school hall at Denistone Public School, Lovell Rd, Denistone. Church activities and services continued despite the difficulties of constantly having to move things. A piece of land at Station St, West Ryde was purchased at about this time but despite repeated representations to the Ryde City Council, the church failed to obtain approval to build on this land. Nevertheless the congregation continued to grow in spite of many trials.
Mid 1997 - An advertisement placed in the Sydney Morning Herald seeking for a suitable place of worship led to the purchase of a former Masonic hall at Campbell St, opposite the Westfield shopping center. Parramatta City Council approved the application to change this heritage building to a place of worship for the True Jesus Church in NSW. The congregation moved into these premises in December 1997. Renovation works were commenced to provide appropriate facilities for worship and religious education. Extra prayer sessions and Wednesday evening services were made possible.
Late 2001 - The church building was dedicted to the Lord on 6 October 2001. Services are held on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sabbath with additional services with visiting ministers. Five Religious Education classes (Kindergarten, Lower Primary, Upper Primary, Junior Youth, Intermediate Youth) together with Adult Bible Study are held on every Sabbath. Sydney Youth Fellowship are held on 1st and 3rd Sundays of every month. Prayer sessions are held regularly. We continue to pray to the Lord Jesus to grant us spiritual strength and increase in membership.
