The Gombak Church began as a fellowship group, then known as Setapak Fellowship. The Fellowship started in 1980 as a youth activity. Its purpose was to foster greater fellowship among the members in the area and to preach the gospel to the people there. Fortnightly services were held in a student house in Taman Bunga Raya, a housing estate located next to Kolej Tunku Abdul Rahman. In 1983, weekly services were held at members’ houses in the Setapak/Gombak area on a rotation basis. As the congregation increased, services were held in rented premises. In 1987, the fellowship was accorded church status. As the majority of members were youths, the church was assisted by Pr. Chin Mun Loong and deacons from the Central Region. In 1988, we had our first deacon, Dn. Joshua Phoong. In 1991, Dn. Caleb Chang was ordained. The need for a premise of its own prompted the purchase of the present building in Titiwangsa which was dedicated to the Lord on 5th April 1992. In order to expand its work in the Kuala Lumpur city, a shoplot in Cheras was purchased. It was dedicated to the Lord on 31st August 1995. Dn. Caleb Chang became the deacon- in- charge of Cheras Church. The search for more workers to assist in the divine work continued. Dn. James Wong was posted to the Gombak in the year 1995. He left for Sabah in the year 1997. In 1999, Dn. Silas Chuah was ordained. We need more workers for the harvest. Throughout these 20 years, many members have been supporting the work.We saw the guidance of God in His church. Great blessings came upon the members. The year 2000 marks the 21st years since the divine work began in Setapak/Gombak area. Having come to maturity, the church desires to fulfill the commission set upon us by our Lord Jesus Christ. 1.. To preach the gospel throughout the land given to us – bringing in the sheaves. 2.. To feed the lambs of God – bringing everyone matured before Christ. We pray that God will continue to guide us to accomplish His will. |
