West End House Boy's and Girl's Club Gift Drive

West End House Boy's and Girl's Club Gift DriveEmail from Ha
Hi All,
Outside of my work and church life, I serve on the board of the West End House Boy's and Girl's Club of Allston/Brighton. Our nonprofit org is collecting store gift cards which would be given to underprivileged kids this holiday season. The request is for gift cards in the $15 denomination, which will be presented to a needy child at the holiday party. If interested, you could drop the gift card off to me at church on Saturday.  If you're too busy to get a gift card, but would like to make a donation, I'll purchase one on your behalf.

Cheers,
Ha

Subject: west end house request

For board members coming to the meeting on Monday, please consider helping out with our holiday gift drive. We've had lots of luck securing gifts for kids 10 & under and are struggling with the 11-18 age group. The most popular gift for our pre teens and teens last year was a store or mall gift card. We are hoping to secure 100 gift cards with $15 on each card. Jim Gordon's and his co-workers have already volunteered to donate some and I'm hoping that other board members would consider doing the same. The best options would be from places like Best Buy, Target or the Simon Mall. If you can bring them on Monday night that would be great!
Thanks

Painting this SundayEmail from Sis. Chu
Hi all:

This Sunday, Ha and four brothers and sisters were painting the dining hall walls in order to prepare for this week's gospel tea fellowship. There is still some unfinished work. It would be great if you could come this Wed. night to help out and Pr. Hu will lead a prayer session starting around 7pm at our chapel (not at Byron's office this week).

Peace,
Tsan-Tsan

Last Sabbath there were 6 volunteers signed up to lead the group sharing.  Each table will have 2 such volunteers as hosts, so we will have 3 tables (groups) at least.  If there are more guests, we probably need 2 more people to host another table.  If you were not present at last week's service, you can still sign up by e-mail.  It would be beneficial if everyone can prepare some personal testimony to share; such as how you received the Holy Spirit or how God has touched you in your life or your personal experiences with God...  Also please brush up on our basic beliefs, in case some one come up with questions on our doctrines.  This tea fellowship is a very casual setting, so be warm and make people feel welcomed and at home. We should also be willing  to listen to others about their concerns and questions, so please make it interactive.

Boston Church Duties 2005-2006Email from Ha
Hi All,
Per our meeting last Saturday, attached is our updated work break-down structure.  For any healthy organization, it's important that everybody has something to do, and everything that needs to get done has someone responsible to do it.  So thanks to all for volunteering to help out and fill some of the missing gaps in our church work.  If you weren't present at the meeting and would like to get more involved, just let me know.   Personal situations change, so please let me know if at anytime you're feeling a bit overwhelmed and we could move around resources to share the burden.

Thanks again and see everyone on Turkey Day!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It is with mixed emotions we report that Br. Frank Mantia has gone to be with the Lord.  He had been battling with cancer for the past 7 years and passed away peacefully last night around 10pm at Mass General Hospital.  Our family is saddened by this loss, but comforted in knowing that he is now resting in God's hands.  Really thank God that Frank had just received water baptism 2 months ago.  We would like to express our thanks and gratitude for all the love, concern, and prayers for our family.

Hello All,
To save the church $600 the contractors would charge us to paint the new
bathroom, we need some folks to help paint this long weekend, before the
new sinks and toilets are installed on Tues.  We would need to put on 1
coat of primer and 2 coats of paint, so the job should take us 3 days.
Let me know if you'd be available to help out on Saturday, Sunday, or
Monday:
Saturday after church: tape and 1 coat of primer
Sunday:  1 coat of paint
Monday (Labor Day) 2nd coat of paint.
Thanks,

Berkshire Mountains Camp Trip
8/2/2005 7:02 AM
Berkshire Mountains Camp TripEmail from Ha

Hi Everyone,
For this summer's excursion, we are planning a long weekend trip to the
Berkshires Mountains, which is about 3 hrs west of Boston.  The camp we
will be staying at is the YMCA Camp Hi-Rock.  Activities available at
this family camp are boating, swimming, ropes courses, tennis, fishing,
basketball, hiking, archery, riflery, volleyball, and climbing wall
(waterskiing is also available for extra $5/round).
I estimate the total cost of the trip to be $107 per person.  This price
is including 2 nights cabin lodging (we bring our own sheets/sleeping
bags), buffet meals, and activities.  The plan would be to leave after
church on Saturday and arrive at the Camp around 5:30pm (in time for
the Beach BBQ dinner Saturday evening!).  We'll have all sorts of fun
on Sunday and Monday, and folks could depart at their leisure after
lunch on Monday.
The tentative dates are either Aug 27-29 or Sep 3-5 (Labor Day Weekend).
I spoke to the Camp Retreat Director and he recommended we go on Aug
27-29 because it's currently wide open and we would have the best
choice for lodging (the Sep 3-5 weekend already have 75-100 people
signed up).
Please respond to me by Wednesday evening if you would definitely like
to go and let me know which weekend would work (or not work) for you.
I'll gather everyone's feedback and select the weekend that most of us
can attend.  You are welcome to invite your friends, but I'd also need
to know as soon as possible to make the reservations/deposit.
Their website is http://www.camphirock.com.  Feel free to let me know if
you have any questions.
Thanks,
Ha

Hello, everyone at the Boston prayer house!

I have missed you for the last two weekends.  Everything went smoothly and joyfully in Dallas!  Jack and I are back from honeymoon and catching up on thank you notes and yes, pictures.  I heard about the baptism, praise the Lord!

I'd like to share with you these pictures from the wedding.  Thank you for all your good wishes and some gifts!  We plan to be in New Jersey this coming weekend, but am not definitely leaving the Boston area yet.  My cell phone will stay the same for now.

Let's keep each other in our prayers!

Hallelujah! Praise the Lord, greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!  Peace and joy to all of you.

Thank and praise the Lord that Vuthy's father, Frank Mantia, was baptized last Sunday, July 10th.  God gave us a perfect weather for the baptism by the ocean... blue sky and nice breeze, we could not ask for a better day.  And Frank was well enough to walk down the shore and even scared us a little by jumping into the water before baptism for he was simply so overjoyed.  We also thank God  for the wonderful timing that Pr. Hu was scheduled here this week, so he's able to conduct the baptism and other holy sacraments.  Welcome
brother Frank to our TJC family!!  We praise the Lord for letting us witness His miraculous work.  May all the glory be unto his name!

Church updateprogress update on church renovation work
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
On behalf of the council members, I'd like to update you on the progress of some major church renovation work. Last week, the pastor's room/office was completely renovated with new hardwood floors. And the first thing you may notice when you drive up to church this week is that we have a beautiful new roof! The scary shed in the back of the church has been demolished and work will begin on installation of new vinyl siding next week. All the windows in the in the chapel and pastor's room will be replaced with new energy efficient windows (that tilt in for easy cleaning!) by the end of the month. We are also talking to plumbers this week to have the women's bathroom expanded to install a shower so that holy workers can comfortable stay at church. Really thank God for granting us the means to transform His holy house into a more glorious and aesthetically pleasing place of worship!

Peace,
-Ha

Writer's Retreat 2005
ANNOUNCE AND POST

To:        All Churches and Houses of Prayer

RE:       Writers’ Retreat 2005

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Hallelujah! Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We would like to invite those of you who wish to take part in the English Literary Ministry to this year's Writer’s Retreat in the United States. The event will take place from June 26-July 2, 2005 (Sunday to Saturday) at Hillsborough Church in New Jersey.

The purpose of this retreat is to give writers the opportunity to take part in literary ministry. During this one-week retreat, you will be able to withdraw from the cares of your busy life and focus on writing for the church. Through collaboration and discussions, you will also draw inspiration and encouragement from fellow writers. If you have always wanted to write for church, but never had the time to do so, this retreat is for you.

Although the USGA is sponsoring this event, participation is open to all English writers around the world. We would like to request all churches to encourage brothers and sisters who are gifted in this area to join this workshop. We would also greatly appreciate it if the local church could help identify writers and even subsidize their traveling expenses. Your involvement in this sacred work will be of tremendous help to the ministry.

The registration deadline will be May 31, 2005. We are currently accepting registrations online at: http://events.tjc.org/ewr2005. When you register, please be ready to provide your arrival information. (Note: When you book your flight, please arrange to fly into Newark Airport.)

Listed on the following page is a description of the projects we will be working on this year. We will allocate the first half of the retreat to writing devotionals, and we will spend the latter half of the retreat developing full-length articles on a genre of your choice.

If you have any questions regarding this retreat, please see the contact information on the registration site.

Thank you for your attention. May the Lord bless you richly.

In Christ,

NYTS Registration2005 National Youth Theological Seminar (NYTS)  Registration
ANNOUNCE AND POST

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

Hallelujah, Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!

It is my pleasure to announce that the 2005 NYTS will be held at Philadelphia Church, Pennsylvania from July 24 – August 7, 2005. Please encourage youths either in college or those who are at least eighteen years old to attend this seminar.

The online registration will begin on May 1, and end on June 20, 2005. Registration and orientation will take place on July 23 (8:00pm) at main chapel, and classes will conclude on August 7 (12:30 pm). Due to the limited space at the host church, we cannot guarantee spaces for late registrants.

The Internet address for registration is as follows: http://ga.tjc.us. Look for the NYTS 2005 link.

To alleviate the host church’s workload, all participants should try to fly into Philadelphia International airport. Attendees from a single church should attempt to fly and arrive together as a group.

The GA will only accept registrants who are planning to attend more than 5 days. Full-time participation is recommended.  Participants are required to complete all assigned Bible readings related to the lecture topics prior to the seminar.

All instructors are strongly encouraged to submit lecture materials to the G.A. office by July 5, 2005 for compilation.
If you have any questions regarding the NYTS registration, please do not hesitate to contact the NYTS coordinators, Pr. Wen-Chuan Yeh at wen.yeh@tjc.org (773) 521-7122 (H) or (630) 379-8119 (C), or Sis. Chin-Li Chou at (469) 241-0892 (H) or (214) 354-8331 (C).

Please remember the NYTS in your daily prayer. Thank you for your corporation and may God bless you abundantly!

Yours in Christ,

Here are some suggestions for the ushers to do:

1. try to arrive at the chapel at 10:30am if you can
2. greet visitors (and members) with a friendly smile
3. ask visitors to sign their names and phone no. on the guest book
4. bring Bible and hymn book to them
5. take them to sit on the pew (starting from the front row), next to our members if possible so someone can help them finding Bible verses
6. guide the visitors to the dining area at lunch time

Calling all PaintersPainting of the Natick Church
Sorry, forgot to ask if brothers and sisters could let me know if they would be available this weekend or next weekend so that we could pick a weekend where most folks would be available.

Thanks,
Ha

Hi All,
Thank God, we made a lot of progress these past 2 weekends getting God's house in order!  Brothers and sisters labored together to clean the whole chapel, organize the kitchen and dining room, bathrooms, space the pews, set-up the library, wash all of the windows, replace the lights and door locks, clean-up outside and rake up all the leaves, etc.  We are all eager to get our church fixed up so that we can proudly host an open house and invite our new neighbors in Natick for worship and fellowship.

The next big project is to give all of the walls a fresh coat of paint.  There were not enough people available last weekend to start the painting project, so I wanted to get a head count and see if we would have enough people this available this weekend to do the job.  The goal is to get the chapel done first.  We would need people to prep the walls, tape windows, etc. after service on Saturday and paint all day on Sunday.  If you could let me know by Wednesday night if you would be available, that'd be great.

Thanks,
-Ha

Prayer Network

From: Sandra, Yue-Chiao, Pam

hi everyone,

some of us were talking about putting together a
prayer network since we have so many youth here now
and it might be nice to set aside a time to pray
together each week. we thought about trying monday
nights at 10:30pm.

attached is a prayer tree w/ all of our names and
phone numbers. here's how it'd work:
- pam will start off the chain by calling eric,
sandra, and emily a few minutes before 10:30pm.
- then each of those three will call the person below
them on the tree, and that person will then call the
next in line, and so on.
- if the person you're trying to reach does not
answer, you would then be responsible for contacting
the person listed after them so that the chain is not
broken.
- if you have a phobia of speaking on the phone, don't
worry. a quick "just calling to remind you about our
10:30 prayer" should suffice. you can can even hang up
right after that. j/k...
- pray for as long or short of a time as you can.
every little bit helps. =)

however, we know that people's school and work
schedules are pretty hectic, so if you think you won't
be able to join the 10:30pm time, please let me know
by THIS SATURDAY so i can revise the phone chain.
finally, we're going to gather each person's prayer
requests so that everyone will have a hard copy on
hand. so PLEASE EMAIL ME what you'd like everyone to
help you pray about.

let's try this out and see where god takes us. prayers
made in unity can be extremely powerful!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Boston,
It's hard to believe, but in less than 2 weeks, Boston Prayer House will have a new home!  Our new home is charming, but the aged building will require some extensive renovation work.  Some things that will need immediate attention are fixing the roof and replacing the boilers.  We'll also need to consider aesthetic issues such as layout, painting, and decor.  A facility maintenance and upkeep plan will also need to be developed.  With many things to do and a limited budge, the council members feel it is important to have a central Committee formed to plan, prioritize, and coordinate this work as the Building Committee will soon be disbanded.  We are accepting volunteers and nominations for 2005-2006 term.  Please let me know asap if you could serve in this respect.  We would like to have the team formed by the end of Sabbath this week so that we could begin this important work asap.  I will reannounce this posting on Saturday.

Thanks,
-Ha

Welcome New Jersey Youths!Jersey Youths visiting Boston
Hallelujah! Praise the Lord, greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!  Peace and joy to all of you.

This week about 15 youths from New Jersey are visiting Boston. They will be joining youth Bible study Friday and attending Sabbath service. We are changing Saturday afternoon session from choir practice to sharing/testimony so that the youths from NJ can have a chance to share their thoughts with us for mutual encouragement.
